Spring steel is used to manufacture technical springs. The material has optimal mechanical properties in terms of formability paired with high strength and toughness at the same time. Ideal for long-term use of technical springs.
Contents
Spring steel has ideal properties for springs and clamping elements, so that they are stable on the one hand and elastic on the other. The material and components made of this material have a high level of strength, but can also be deformed up to a certain level of stress. After that, they return to their original shape when the load is relieved. Spring steel can be stretched very far until it breaks or permanently changes shape.
Depending on the use and stress, there are different spring steels for different applications. The steels differ, for example, in their strength (RM), elasticity, density, their operating temperature, their spec. electr. resistance and conductivity.
Standard spring steel
suitable for technical springs with and without surface treatment
Dynamically highly stressed spring steel for the best long-term strength
suitable for heavily stressed springs
Corrosion-resistant types of spring steel (see Austenitic steel)
suitable for springs that do not or hardly corrode
Non-magnetic and corrosion-resistant spring steel
suitable for technical springs with very good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance
High-temperature spring steel grades with very good corrosion resistance
suitable for heat-resistant springs with optimal heat resistance and good resistance to corrosion and oxidation
Low temperature spring steels
suitable for springs that are insensitive to cold and have high corrosion resistance
Special spring steel wires
Suitable for technical springs with special properties such as resistance to heat or cold, increased corrosion resistance, etc.
In order to avoid overloading during the production of technical springs, most spring steels are only thermally treated after the forming process. Heat treatment increases elasticity, strength and wear resistance and reduces spring fatigue.
Technical springs are used in a wide variety of industries such as automotive, mechanical engineering, electronics, electrics, chemicals and petrochemicals, medicine or aerospace. Depending on the use and stress on the springs, first-class spring steel of various designs and grades is required.
